How Sandow Made Me Strong
by A. E. J.
A republication of an article orginally published in 1898 in which the anonymous author gives a first-hand account of his experiences at the Sandow School of Physical Culture in London: includes detailed descriptions of the exercises prescribed and it is fascinating to read his description of what we know as 'sit-ups' and 'push-ups' wihout actually using those phrases and as if they were a new thing: also contains details of the democratic organisation of the School and Sandow's views on what he was hoping to acheive: there is also a brief retelling of how Sandow came to public awareness on the stage of a London Variety theatre. A fasincating account.
