Three Tales of Venice
by Frederick Rolfe
Frederick Rolfe spent the last few years of his life in Venice. It was from here that he wrote the notorious 'Venice Letters' and from here also that he wrote a number of short pieces of fiction, heavily grounded in his own experiences. Three of these short pieces were published in 1913 and these are reproduced in this volume. The titles are:
- An Ossuary in the North Lagoon
- On Cascading into the Canal
- Venetian Courtesy
Some believe that Rolfe was at his very best in these kinds of short reportage pieces. Certainly they are filled with glowing descriptions of Venice and its young men, sharp comments on the ex-pats in the city and some of the most beautiful descriptions of the Venetian lagoon in English.
