Louis Wain in His Own Words: Two Interviews

One of the things we really enjoy at Callum James Books is discovering in the swamps of Victorian periodicals, the first 'celebrity interviews', especially when the person being interviewed is someone still notable and interesting today like, in this instance Louis Wain. Two interviews are reprinted here in which Wain is described and allowed his voice on the subjects, mainly, of looking after and drawing Cats and other animals. We meet the cats who served as his models and hear some, perhaps slightly worrying given that Wain ended his life in an asylum, views about the personalities of cats and how they should be treated.

The two interviews here were first published in 1894 and 1896 when Wain was at the height of his powers and popularity. He comes across as a rather likeable man with more than a side-order of eccentricity. The first interview retains the illustrations that Wain drew specifically to accompany it.

This is a numbered edition of 50 copies sewn into printed green card covers. The cost is £9.99 + P&P.
